FAQs

FAQs

Skydive Diani answers your frequently asked questions about tandem skydiving!

Is it safe?

As skydiving is an adventure sport, there are some risks involved. However, with our expert instructors and top quality equipment, we have made skydiving as safe as it can be.

How fast will I fall?

The average speed in free fall is 120 mph.

Is there a weight limit?

We do not have a specific weight limit. However, if you weigh more than 100 kg’s, please get in touch with us and we will evaluate you on a case by case basis as we have to take consideration of wind limits etc. to make the skydive as safe and enjoyable as possible.

Can I skydive if I'm disabled?

Disability is not necessarily a barrier. Whilst solo skydiving may not be suitable, tandem skydiving has made it possible for many disabled people to experience the sport. Please get in touch with us so we can talk it through. If you have a medical condition, please confirm with your doctor that you are ok to skydive.

How long does it take?

It takes about 30 minutes from the plane takes off until you land safely back on the beach. Please allow 2-3 hours from arrival to complete your jump.

How old do I have to be?

The most important thing while doing a tandem skydive is that you are tall enough to fit safely in the tandem harness. Please get in touch with us if you are younger than 14 years old, and we can talk through the details.

Can I get pictures and video of my skydive?

Yes! For an additional $75 you can have pictures and a professionally edited video capturing your whole experience so you can relive the moment again and again.

Can I bring my own camera for the jump?

For safety reasons, you will not be able to bring your own camera for your jump. We follow the restrictions of United States Parachute Association, and they have a 200 jump requirement for jumping with a camera. As there are a lot of risks involved in bringing a camera in free fall, we only allow trained professionals to film using skydive-friendly equipment.

What do I need to wear?

Just wear comfortable clothes like shorts/trousers and a t-shirt/sweater, but keep in mind it can be a bit chilly in the plane up to altitude. As we land directly on the beach, you can make your own decision if you want to wear shoes for your jump or jump barefoot.

Do I need to come with a group of people, or can I book a tandem skydive alone?

We take single bookings as well as group bookings. Just let us know when you are up for some airborne action, and we’ll sort everything out for you!

Do I need to make reservations to make a skydive?

It is recommended to book in advance, as that is the only way we can secure your place, and get you the time that is most convenient for you. Make a booking at +254 701 300 400 or at jump@skydivediani.com.

Can I go solo on my first jump?

You will have to complete our 8 jump Accelerated Free Fall course before you are allowed to jump solo.

Can I breathe in free fall?

Yes! It is quite windy as you fall towards the earth in 200 km/h, but breathing is not a problem.

When are you open?

We are open every day, all year round from early morning to sunset.

What happens if the parachute does not open?

We have a second ‘Reserve parachute’, which is used in the unlikely event of the main chute not operating properly. The Reserve is checked and repacked every 6 months by a specially certified Packer. There is also a small computer inside the parachute container which will open the parachute if, for some reason, the instructor does not. A very unlikely situation.

What is the landing like?

As a tandem student you will be instructed to lift your legs up in front of you so your tandem instructor can touch the ground first. If you don’t land on your feet, you will glide in on your bum and the landing impact is just like stepping off of a chair or a step.

Can my friends come and watch my jump?

Yes, bring your friends and family and we will let them know when you are about to land on the beach so they can watch you coming down.

I wear spectacles/ lenses, will that be a problem?

We will provide you with goggles that will fit over your glasses if needed. Contacts are fine, just make sure your instructor is aware of them so that you get appropriate goggles.

What if the weather is unsuitable on the day of my jump?

If we are not able to jump because of weather, we can reschedule your jump for another day of your choosing.
